Okay, I have so much to tell you about the new 2009 Cadillac CTS-V that I don't know where to start. First, there's the outrageous power that makes it the fastest production sedan ever produced by a domestic manufacturer. Then there are the incredible sound effects and driving dynamics, not to mention the fact that it's the first serious American threat to the German performance leaders. Like I said, oh my God!
One thing's for sure: this car is special. It's an extraordinary evolution from GM's first attempt at creating a high-performance premium sedan. This next-generation CTS-V gains no less than 156 horsepower along with countless dynamic upgrades for a true Nürburgring-worthy package.
Aesthetically speaking, the CTS-V is a thug on wheels. The muscular stance and exaggerated bulges add to the car's unique character. The sharp lines make for a bold, chiselled look that is definitely aimed at a younger crowd. I personally find the radical design appealing to a certain extent, but it's not hard to figure out why traditional Cadillac buyers are dumbfounded.
The rebirth of the brand had GM talking about "world-class" products that have absolutely nothing to envy to the German kings. These claims were highly debatable a short while ago, but the arrival of the 2009 CTS-V backs them up in brilliant fashion. There are no more doubts about performance, material selection as well as fit and finish. Quality levels are right up there with the best.
The interior is sumptuous with leather seats that beautifully wrap your body. Comfort on a daily basis is exceptional. There are plenty of adjustments for drivers of all body styles. The dashboard proves very attractive with piano-black appliqués. The integration of the semi-retractable navigation system in the upper section is both visually ingenious and functional. The various instruments are nicely executed and easy to read.
All-out power
Saying that the massive hood of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V hides a monstrous engine would be a clear understatement. With 556 horsepower and 551 pounds-feet of torque on tap, every forward thrust gives the impression that the world will fall apart. Think about it: this beast reaches 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds! Unfortunately, the parameters of my road test prevented me from duplicating the feat.
