Closer to the mark
Perhaps not surprisingly, Chrysler press materials on the new 200 frequently reference a ”previous” model, although the name Sebring doesn't appear. That’s likely because the first thing Chrysler doesn't want you to think of when you look at the new 200 is the former Chrysler Sebring.

Though the 200 is, effectively, the Sebring’s replacement it rides on a heavily updated version of the former machine’s platform that packs in new styling, features and a complete overhaul of virtually all the major systems.

So, what was wrong with the Sebring?

Despite decent pricing, the Sebring just plain lacked the performance, ride quality and refinement to truly compete with the big players in its market.

Now, with Fiat’s passionate Italian blood (and millions in cash) injected into the Chrysler Group, a product rampage redesign has ensued, and it’s shown sweeping changes in the automaker’s model lineup. Chrysler promises shoppers that they’re now building their best machines ever, and that the 200 is one of them.

Revamp
It doesn’t seem like an empty promise. With upgraded suspension and bushings, increased sound deadening and an all-new V6 engine on board, the 200 has the hardware to back up Chrysler’s promise. The machine’s new look screams ”classy”, and you’ll even notice the new winged Chrysler badge — if you look closely.

The cabin has been totally done over, too. It now includes soft-touch surfaces, updated switches and controls, and a simple yet elegant new look. The loaded tester we had sported mostly black trim with some chrome to brighten things up, as well as goodies like steering-wheel mounted controls and a full driver and trip computer.
