More about the Inscription
Along with Polestar performance, the Inscription Package includes 18” black Midir wheels with polished rims and spokes, a black grille, premium leather upholstery and leather-lined dashboard along with adaptive xenon headlights, LED running lights, a rear spoiler and aluminum sport pedals.
The Inscription is available in only two colours: Ice White and Black Sapphire Metallic.
Behind a roofless wheel
Arizona seems like the ideal environment in which to own a convertible, and the C70 T5 Inscription may be the ideal example. It bespeaks moderate exclusivity and performance while providing a remarkably comfortable driving experience.
I was immediately impressed with the smooth ride quality of this vehicle and its operational refinement. I would describe both of these characteristics as class-leading in the convertible hardtop segment. Of course, capitalizing on a smooth ride generally requires some degree of compromise, and in this case it would be in handling.
Now don’t misinterpret this as a negative, it simply means that the C70 T5 Inscription is more biased toward a polished ride than a sizzling ride, and that’s likely more consistent with the market segment that Volvo’s targeting with this vehicle.
I found my time behind the wheel to be exceptionally relaxing, and I credit my tester’s lavish comfort and ease of operation for a drive that was more Zen-like than what I generally experience in a convertible. Of course, the desert warmth may also have contributed to the splendor.
Wrapping the C70 T5 Inscription
The Inscription Package does elevate the appeal and performance of the C70 T5 but it also limits the choice of colours and wheels. As a $4,400 package, one may want to consider forgoing “Inscription” and selecting the Premier Plus or Platinum package, both of which supply plenty of comfort and convenience content while not restricting colour choices.
The Polestar performance-tuning upgrade, which is part of the Inscription amalgam, can be acquired independently for $1,295 if the power upgrade is all that one seeks. In fact, Polestar can be retrofitted to any C70 T5, model-year 2008 or newer.
There aren’t many 4-seat convertible hardtops to choose from, with each of the four emphasizing respective strengths. If the Chrysler 200 is the value leader and the BMW 3 Series Cabriolet the performance leader, then the Volvo C70 T5 Inscription must be the class and exclusivity leader.
