Ces deux monstres tout chromés ne manquaient définitivement pas de prestance ni d'assurance.

It's not often, at least here in the cold desolate North, that we get to see a grouping of cars such as those found in this evaluation. In fact, so rare and expensive are some of these cars that this was the first time that I had actually gotten the opportunity to sit in one, let alone drive it.

Second, we limit ourselves to a segment and third, we try and have them carry similar powertrains and levels of kit.

Monday, May 25, 2009
We wouldn't normally think that a Ford and a Mercedes-Benz could face each in a comparison test, but we just did it. Two factors explain what was unthinkable 20 years ago. Mainstream brands saw the opportunity to create uplevel versions of their products and sell them at higher prices. On the other hand, luxury brands exploit their prestigious logos to develop lower-end vehicles, assuming people will buy a reputation instead of all-out extravagance.

Remember the original VW Rabbit GTI? The Mazda 323GTX? The Honda Civic Si? The Dodge/Plymouth Colt Turbo? The Toyota Corolla GT-S? The Chevrolet Sprint Turbo and Pontiac Firefly Turbo? The Suzuki Swift GT? We do, as we wipe the tears in our eyes.

Since the mid-'80s, when both companies started getting serious as car makers by moving up the automotive food chain, BMW 5 Series vs. Audi A6--both in the car mags and in the showrooms--has been a battle car zealots have been able to sit back and reap the rewards from.

A Family van comparison
Tuesday, October 05, 2004
For this case we used the most recently introduced vans and thus the General Motors vans were excluded, as was Mazda's and others. In addition, our pick as best van ever, the Honda Odyssey is being redone for next year with several improvements including a handy lazy susan type tray, more power, and better utility. Although the Honda would hold up well in terms of performance in this case, it just cannot compete in utility with the fresher models.
