It's 5 a.m. I'm up, putting on my jeans and getting ready to leave for work. As part of my commute, I pick up Charlie, Harold and Thomas since we 're all headed to the same site. After pit-stopping at Tim Horton's for some breakfast, we hit the road.

My No. 1 tool for work? My 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD LTZ with Duramax power and Allison transmission. My Sheer silver metallic Crew cab, Standard box, 4WD cost me a little over $71,000 but given the truck's capabilities, it was practically a steal.

For starters, I'm a Chevy guy. That's why I got the Silverado. I have to admit that I did drive by a RAM and a Ford dealer and took a quick glance at the trucks. The RAM's got great styling and the Ford looks classy, but nothing can replace a bow-tie in the middle of my chrome grille.

I got the Crew cab 'cause it made everyone's life easier, including the wife and kids. Charlie, Harold and Thomas are big guys and need their own door to get in; an extended cab was out of the question. I like the interior layout. It's simple and all the controls are easy to operate. Honestly, the only thing I'm not crazy about in this truck is the dashboard. I checked out some of the guys' trucks at work, and I have to admit that the Ford, Toyota and RAM have nicer interiors overall. It is tough to beat the seat comfort in this thing though. I'll probably change it up in two years. Hopefully, GM'll have done something about it by then.

The guys love riding in my truck. My LTZ is fully loaded. I've got Satellite radio (don't remember what I used to do without it) which plays through my 7-speaker Bose audio system. The sound is surprisingly good. They love that, and the leather seats. I've got dual-zone air conditioning so we're always comfortable. I do wish I had a telescoping steering wheel; it would help me get more comfortable behind the wheel.

The kicker with my Chev is the 6.6L turbo diesel Duramax diesel engine and its Allison 1000 transmission. On their own, they cost over $11,000 but I'll never regret ticking those boxes when I ordered the truck. Its got 397hp and 765 lb-ft of torque. The other guys like to mess with me and tell me that their Fords and RAMs have 800 lb-ft of torque, but they always shut up when I say one word: “Allison.”
