im planning to buy a new midsize car in the next 3 months. if you are me, what car would you wanna buy which is not more than $26000 canadian dollars? whats your dream car that you can afford??????
Base Accord, Protegé, Civic, Corolla, Matrix, Sentra, base Altima... there are many choices out there...
If it is 26000 before taxes, In my opinion Honda Accord LX is one of the best choices.

Nissan Altima. It has been improved for 2003, offers great style and superb performance. Look out for next year's (2004) Mitsubishi Galant too, very slick. I've driven the Honda Accord too, and probably has the nicest interior of the bunch, plus will offer the best reliability this side of the (yawn) Camry. The domestics offer nothing and the VW Passat, while really nice, isn't reliable. Depending on your age the Hyundai Sonata offers a lot of car for the money too, but not a performance leader. It's all about priorities...

In a more compact car I'd go for the Impreza 2.5RS Wagon: AWD and flat four cylinder engine. Perfect for winter.

You can go for the Honda Accord LX. The Accord has been in Canada for a long long long time. It`s hard to beat its reliability and has a great smooth ride. It`s good at everything.
However, you won`t be getting any fancy stuff with the LX. If you want a brand new car under $26,000 with all the features then you should consider the HONDA CIVIC SI 4 door or Acura 1.7 EL. The engine is a little smaller but you`ll appreciate the gas savings and most of all you`ll get all the trims such as moon roof, cd changer, electric everything and on the ACURA even leather seats. I think you`ll be happiest with the EL.
Getting back to the engine being a little smaller. With a CIVIC/EL you get a 1.7 VTEC eginee with 127 horsepower and 115 of torque. It`s got guts and trust me it goes. It`s a fun car to drive. The only time you`ll feel the lack of power is when you are are 3 or 4 in the car, carrying a load or on a steep uphill.
Other options are of course MAZDA 6 or MAZDA 3 hatchback, ALTIMA. I don`t really like the CAMRY. It looks to much of a grandfather car. Stick to HONDA or ACURA. There`s also the TOYOTA Carolla or Matrix.

I'd probably spring for a Mazda 3 hatch. At that price, it has the right balance of comfort, performance, fuel mileage, etc.
By the way, dream car that I can afford?. What kind of dream is that? For me, the dream part kicks in when someone else ponies up the 26, 000 G's! :nice:  :bravo:
woohoo!

Well, for 26K, I'd go for a Mazda6 4-door GS-V6, which is a little smaller than an Accord or Camry, but has sportier handling.
For a grand more, I'd even take the Mazda6 Sport Wagon, more practical.
I'd probably go for a VW Golf TDI.

I'd be real curious about the new 2006 Sonata - wait, don't laugh, this car will take more than a few people by surprise. The preliminary reviews are very positive; bigger V6, Acura looks/fit/finish and loaded with goodies.

I agree should be very interesting. In a weird way, it's almost sad that the Koreans are droping their identity to adopt a more European style. Same thing for the next Santa Fe

Actually, my secret fantasy dream car (which I could not afford) would be a mint-condition 1970 Plymouth Superbird with the 426 Hemi option. According to Musclecarclub.com, it is the most valuable muscle car out there, selling for about $84,000.00! It was, at the time, the fastest true 5 passenger car on the planet, probably still is...I have had the pleasure of driving a Lamborghini Countach once, but the Superbird is still the tops for me! Maybe I should contact the Oprah show and tell her!

I was watching the Barrett-Jackson auction this past weekend. They sold one of my favourites: 1967 Ford Shelby Mustang GT 500. It sold at auction for $270,000 US DOLLARS !!!! It was beautiful !! The only thing that kept the price "down" was that it was equipped with an automatic transmission!!

Another car I would love to have, just for fun, was the 1962 Dodge Dart. So ugly it was cool...but it's whats inside that counts: One of the factory options was the 413 cid Max Wedge (an early Hemi) drag strip tuned V8. This was the ultimate sleeper car, the kind mom would be comfortable driving but, performance: 413/410 bhp: 0-60 in 5.8 seconds, 1/4 mile in 14.4 seconds @ 100 mph.!

Sorry, my mistake, the Max Wedge's chambers were wedge shape (hence the name) instead of hemispherical, so it wasn't really an early hemi, which preceeded it.

I can almost hear car-horn "Dixie" over the rebel-yells as I look at those.
That bronzy paintjob on the top two is surprisingly good-looking! Looks like those were taken at some kind of aviation museum?

I hear the "Good old boys" tune and the horn in my head every day.

Although I'm not a big GM fan, there is one that was IMHO, the best, baddest they ever built: The 1963 Corvette Grand Sport. It was a pure racing machine:
In early 1962, Corvette Chief Engineer Zora Arkus Duntov began top secret work on a Corvette purpose-built race car to win Sebring and Le Mans and more specifically -- to put an end to the humiliating losses Chevrolet had suffered at the hands of Carrol Shelby and his Cobras.
The envisioned Grand Sport would be the ultimate Corvette, a lightweight, tremendously powerful factory built racer. Mounted with a 377cid small block with Weber side-draft carburetors (see the photo, below), it dynoed at 550hp at 6400rpm and was designed to blow the hoods off Shelby's Cobras. And if the Ferraris and Fort GT 40's were also left in the dust, so much the better.
After the prototypes had proven their mettle -- and metal -- 125 production street beasts were to be unleashed. But it never happened...
When they learned of Zora's secret program, the Chevrolet boardroom put a stop to the car's construction -- but they couldn't stop the five Grand Sports already built. And neither could the competition. From 1963 to 1967, the cars tore up the racetracks. And even after that, they continued to see duty and put up an excellent showing at races around the country and even overseas.
Thanks to the dedication of a few very serious collectors, all five of the original Grand Sport Corvettes still exist to this day (the photo shows their historic reunion at the 2003 Amelia Island Concours D'Elegance). And while they are rarely seen beyond the confines of the occasional auto show, they still create excitement in the minds of all those that witness these amazing automotive legends.
