I had a 1990 with a 3.3. Apparently at the time there was a problem with valve springs on my van as well. By checking recalls and service bulletins I found out that my van had been repaired under waranty. There may be a waranty available to you even if it is over. Check out a web site call ALL DATA.com and it'll tell you what recalls are out on your van to date. You'll still have to check with your dealer to see if all the repairs have been carried out. I have a 96 voyager as well by it has a 3.0L engine. It was one of the oil burners for and engine but I have manage to beat the odds so far because it's just rolled over the 235,000 kms and uses about half a litre per oil change, and that's with the valve cover gaskets leaking oil too. I haven't gotten around to that yet.
Good luck.
