1400 km and tire is gone!

I have a Chev Colorado with 15 inch 225 tires that are made by General. I had 1400 km on my new vehicle when the tire blew. GM will not stand behind the tire. I am wondering if there is anyone else who has had problems with General (and possible recalls). I think that once you buy a GM vehicle, you are on your own if there are any problems. Live and learn.

Any idea what caused it? i.e. heat, small slash by hodlums, tread break from driving into or hitting a sharp edge somewhere - i.e train tracks or manholes? Something like that would do it.

I did not notice anything out of the ordinary while I was driving. I understand that things can happen beyond normal circumstances, but I also know that GM could have easily thrown me some bone without losing any money (not making full profit of course but making me happy and satisfied). When I asked the tow truck driver and 2 tire dealers about the tires, they all said the faster I can get these tires off this truck the better.

Man...it just doesn't pay to keep certain OEM tires on your vehicle, does it? All that business with Firestone, now General. Not the first time I've heard stuff like this, just on word of mouth!

Maybe people ought to make it part of a new-car deal to arrange the installation of a decent set of tires on your vehicle before you'll accept delivery, at least in some circumstances. Maybe the carmakers will start getting the message.

Really, tires are one of the last places I'd want a carmaker cutting corners. Brakes being another, but that's a whole other thread!

I've dealt with General/continental tires for a few years now unfortunately :(

No tire/car manufacterer will back a bad tire unless it is a structural defect.
If you get into an accident with your car do you expect the manufacturer to warranty it?????????????

jcm, doesn't your new car's tires have a manufacturer's road hazard warranty? Check the paperwork you got when you purchased it, you normally get the tire manufacturer's warranty info.

I got a blown tire with my Acura once, I had something like 25,000 km on the tire. My dealer replaced the tire under the tire manufacturer's road hasard warranty, I just had to pay for the equivalent of the wear on the tire (about a third of the price of the tire).
