Have just read Andrew McCredie's road test of the Jaguar X-type and couldn't agree more. The dash centre console is the nastiest piece of plastic and spoils an otherwise delightful interior. I owned a 2.5 manual (standard) for two years and found it quick, but it really needed revving to get the best out of it. The 3.0 I test drove was very much faster.

This car is extremely stable and safe to drive at high speed, way more so than any BMW or Mercedes. I've owned models of those too and found them to be 'interesting' in low grip conditions (can't comment on their expensive 4wd variants..), I preferred the Jag, so did my wife.

So come on Jaguar.... sort out the centre console ($250 would make it really nice) and give us a heated windscreen as standard and you've got a winner.

I have heard and seen owners have many problems with their X-Types. Everything from brakes to most electical components. In 2 cases, the dealer (and manufacturer) bought back the car after less than a year's time...

I'm curious to find out more about your experience.

I've had an X-type for about 18 months now, absolutely no problems. I have a co-worker bought one from the previous model year and he has had some of the well-known electrical problems from the first vintage but I read that they have been fixed in the model year when I bought mine (else I would not have bought it  ).

Drives almost as well as the bmw but I found the beemer interior looked and felt thin and cheap - definitely not comparable to the Jag/Lexus and MB in its class.

I'm glad to hear that the problems seem sorted out. The car is beautiful and, IMO, the Wagon is really hot. I think the only thing that is missing on this side of the pond is Jaguar's 2.7L double turbo diesel V6 and we've got a real winner on our hands.
