Whatīs funny is that Opel/Vauxhall (Vauxhall is Opel for British) are GM European divisions.

And if they bring Saab to Canada, why not Opel? :x

At least they could stick Buick or Cadillac or Pontiac emblem on it! Like they have done before:

I've always wondered why global companies like Ford and GM don't produce more "world cars"... are we THAT different in America?

In Canada, we're unfortunately prisoners of the american way of life, with big fat floatmobiles and jumbo SUVs...

The General
10-16-2004, 03:45 PM
I think that the GM, Chrysler and Ford people are afraid that the market will eventually want better, more exciting cars to drive. If that happens, who's gonna buy Tauruses, Impalas and Sebrings ??

The Catera, BTW, is NOT a good example... One of GM's worst cars of the past 10 years.

About Catera, honestly, I donīt know what Cadillac have done. Before we moved to Canada my parents had an Opel Omega, previous generation, not a bad car.

And back on topic. As a person born outside of North America I never understood the so called "American autoculture" or the bigger the better principle, no offence. When I see those huge old V-8 powered "сans" I donīt think - cool, I think - what a waste of metal and roadspace. I like powerful cars too, but I want them to be beautiful as well. Something like this:
http://retractable.free.fr/pics/optt04.jpg
Opel Tigra - not much larger then smart, but much faster. Not that fuel efficient though, unless they have a diesel engine for it too. :D

woohoo!
