Does anyone know when this car is coming out in Canada?

Should be here by the end of this month.

Should be interesting...

My sister showed some interest in this car yesterday. Her impression was that it might be a better version of the Grand Prix. I'll probably keep tabs for her.

A Grand Prix is still a larger car. If you're in the market for something like the G6, look into an Accord or a Mazda 6. Much safer bets for the moment.

the g6 models have started arriving in our showrooms within the last few days, and it is a fabulous car ! this car leaps way beyond the grand am it replaces in the same way that the 97 grand prix replaced the older style before it. solid, agile, gorgeous, quick, responsive,fresh....i can't say enough ! honda, toyota, nissan...you've got nothing on this car ! canadian dealers have them now- go drive one

...how can anyone offer as advice " a safer bet is the accord or mazda 6" ? safer how ? as of that response the car had not been driven by anyone other than automotive journalists and some gm staffers - which one is the author of the response ? or are you yet another devotee of the japanese product blindly reccommending it over domestic due only to its origin. methinks trying some of the fresh, high quality product being offered by other manufacturers makes sense...throw in superior dealer supprt network and maybe the author should strongly consider at least trying the g6 ?

The General

Very easily. The reason for that response is based on short term (working out bugs) and long term reliability. GM does not have the "cleanest" record when they introduce new products on the market.

You are wrong in assuming that I am "yet another devotee of the Japanese product blindly recommending it over domestic due only to its origin." Many of the best Japanese products come from Canada and the U.S. by the way. I have had the opportunity to evaluate many many cars from every manufacturer that sell cars in Canada over the past years. I have also had the opportunity to be part of a group that closely follows cars, the market and the industry for over 5 years. I can, with certainty, say that I have a very good idea of what is out there.

You are right though, the G6 is far superior in many ways than the Grand Am. Please also remember that my sentence ended off with "for the moment". I was being diplomatic and very reasonable in my statement.

I am very much looking forward to testing the G6. I am expecting quite a bit from this car.

...maybe i was premature and didn't put enough thought into my response, i don't have enough background to make a judgement about the General's predispositions...of course i do realize that japanese mfrs are producing product in north america - i referred to origin of manufacturer , not the automobiles. I obviously was overzealous in my praise of the product, however we as gm dealers have not been in a position such as that we are in right now where the product introductions recently and on the horizon are very exciting- i can only hope that consumers will take a fair look at cars like the G6 instead of assuming that the altima, mazda 6, camry, accord etc. have retained their edge. By the way, why is the G6 considered a compact car while these others are " mid size" ? the pontiac offers a longer wheelbase, and comparable overall length, width, etc. to all of these offerings...any insight ? i don't doubt your credentials...i am probably more biased...but go try the product...

Don`t worry about it.

I can imagine that the G6, the Cobalt/Pursuit, Terraza/Montana SV6, STS etc will hopefully breath new life into GM dealers. It's good to be excited about the near future. In my case though I look at it from a consumer point of view, that is all.

I am going to be testing the G6, hopefully within the next 2 months. As to why to G6 is considered a compact is beyond me... Why is the PT Cruiser considered a truck??

woohoo!

I just read the feature test drive of the G6. I think my sis would love this car! I don't think it's half-bad either.

I gotta agree it seems to be light-years removed from the old Grand Am, and that's a good thing. I really like the exterior lines, the dash layout, and it looks like people won't be sitting on the floor in back anymore - remember the Lumina?

Bottom line - if reliability holds up, GM has itself a real winner on their hands.

If only they'd rid themselves of that @#^%$ plastic intake manifold gasket. But that's a discussion for another thread!

The General
10-26-2004, 08:47 AM
That's an excellent idea...

I hope the car holds up as well.

GENERAL HAVE YOU HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO DRIVE A PONTIAC G6 YET ? I'M INTERESTED IN SEEING SOME INPUT HERE...I WAS DISGUSTED WITH THAT WOODCOCK GUY'S REVIEW IN THE SUN MEDIA...A LOAD OF CRAP WHICH SPENT HALF HIS REVIEW COMPLAINING ABOUT REAR SEAT HEADROOM-(WHICH IS ACTUALLY NOT TOO BAD ). HE MADE NO INTELLIGENT REMARKS REGARDING THE DRIVEABILITY OF THE CAR, COMFORT, POWER, HANDLING ETC. I WAS SO OFFENDED BY HIS FLUFF THAT I ALMOST E-MAILED HIM- IT WAS USELESS CRAP.

I have not. I'm hoping before the end of December. Worst case, I will drive it towards the end of January.

As soon as I do, I will post some comments.

I know, I opened my car door on it and put quite a dent on the passenger side... that car is way too big for the parking spots here...

The General
11-10-2004, 09:08 AM
So it was YOU!!! I know, it's huge. That's why I take 1 1/2 spots... In this car, I own the darn road, ALL OF IT

I just read Alex Law's driving test of the G6. The heck with my sister, I'd snap one those up for myself.

Law could wind up being one of my fave reviewers, we tend to think alike!

I guess you feel this way because you like the commercial with the girl taking off in the morning...

I kidd, I kidd.

I just hope I'm not dissapointed when I try it.

It's a job almost like any other.

I still have to sit behind a desk every day and type my life away...

...but then, when I get behind the wheel on my Phaeton, I feel a little better...

woohoo!
12-04-2004, 12:11 PM
Yeah, yeah, and I have to sit 2 desks away from you and hear you complain about getting 20 L/100 km in "your" Phaeton... hehehe

The General
12-06-2004, 10:50 AM
A Phaeton with a trunk that is stuck in the closed position with stuff in it!

Oh well, a VW will be a VW.

I'm starting to see more and more G6s on the road. I guees they are selling well.
