Anyone here use municipal public transportation to get around? I'm talking buses, subways, whatever. Ever use it instead of your vehicle? That sort of thing is being encouraged, I'm just curious if anyone actually does it.
The TTC recently received a billion-dollar cash injection. Any of that showing yet, Torontonians? Sure wish my city's system got a windfall like that!

In the Montreal / Laval area, the transit corporation is busting its butt to finish the subway between the 2 islands. It was supposed to cost a couple of 100 million but now it's closer to a cool billion.
And no, I don't use public transit. I did for nearly 10 years and now, part of my job is test driving new cars... It would not do me any good.

public transit out west here sucks. especially if you don't live right in the city. the upcoming 2010 Olympics construction and upgrades doesn't seem like it'll remedy that situation.

I used the train for years when I was working in downtown Montreal. I tried two separate lines. One was a diesel train, the other was an electric train.
The electric train was great, nice and quiet, and more comfortable overall. The diesel train was always broken, always late, and had to share its tracks with commercial trains, which caused delays.
The train was great in winter, because I would get to work on time in severe snowstorms.
Only bad part, I just couldn't stay awake in the train. I would always doze off and lean onto the passenger beside me, my mouth wide open and drooling.
As for the rest, subway, bus, etc... never gotten used to it.

I used to take a bus to the university, but now prefer to ride a bycicle, though I still have to take a bus when it's raining. The thing is, by bycicle I get there faster. :)
