Hard to believe the 84 Camry with no rust a couple of years ago now is worth $35 to the wrecker, one of the four new tires alone is worth that. My son won't fix it because a tie rod end needs to be replaced and a key I got copied got stuck in the ignition

It's passed the e-test for life

Anyone have experience in what to do with a good old car--Wholesaler if yo can find one? Is it worth fixing or better to cut your losses?

Well, a tie-rd may cost around 50$ + alignment (60$) + new ignition switch (150$) = 210$ or 250$ as a nice round number.

If the rest of the car is really in as good shape as you say (little or no rust?), then its worth fixing. If the car is "falling" apart, then scrap it or donate it to the kidney foundation if it has a little more value.

I'm trying to find out what happened but the neighbour got the key out of the ignition somehow--biggest cost; and is now looking for a code that seized the electrical system during the boosts I suppose; I'll try to get a hold of him; there may be hope yet for the old tank--that smoke on rapid acceleration does not look good, and my be the deciding factor on how long it will last.
