I am looking for a SUV and find the Equinox a really good looking vehicle, the price is also very reasonable for what you get. The only problem, which is what I have been reading, is the old outdated 180 hp 3.4 engine. Has anyone heard if GM will be using the 3.5 Honda engine in this vehicle like they did in the Saturn Vue? This would be much better for sales and better for us as consumers!
Thanks!

The all-new Equinox is already old and outdated. The outside styling is nice but that's about it. The interior plastics are cheap and the assmebly is generally sub-par. I have not yet driven the Equinox but from I have also read, it's not that great. If GM was to put the 3.5L Honda V6 in another one of their vehicles, I think it would only serve to proove that GM can't really build a powerful compact engine. Think of GM's "all-new" 3.5L V6 that has an amazing 200 hp...
If you want a comfortable, economic and reliable SUV, look into the CR-V.

Honda CRV (always reliable)
Hyundai Tucson (solid new AJAC winner)
Rav 4 (Toyota fit & finish + resale)
Can't go wrong with any of these - stay away from the domestics, they are trying but still failing to match the asians. All flash but no substance.
The only exception to the trend is the Nissan X-Trail. Tried it and it had a lousy ride, cramped and so-so interior quality. They seem to be faltering a bit lately; their new Altima is not as great as first perceived.

Laspalmas is right on the money. I was not to crazy about the X-Trail either.
I would wait a little with the Tuscon and Sportage.
