Hello,

I was recently at a Honda dealership in Ontario and I was viewing the CRV's in the lot and in the showroom. I noticed that the muffler on the new 2006 CRV's had rust or rust colour patches/blotches. Is this normal for a 2006 model to have?

It could have been in and outside over a number of weeks. It also may have been test driven a couple of times. The discolourations are simply from the new metal heating up and cooling back down after use.

Either of these conditions will promote condensation on the exhaust components which can be quick to show surface rust as a result.Normal.

BTW - if you want something really scary, have a look at a brand new car a couple of months after it's been bought on a rack and you will see lots of these kinds of things.

It is definitely not normal if it is brand new but since this you saw it on the show room of your local dealer... Sometimes, they let their customers to have a test drive of thier car, which is a normal thing... Just like when my friend bought his car on a local dealer, the Plymouth mufflers of his new car has the same discoloration but with constant polishing it was gone by about a month...

Not much you can do about it, its enevitable. I was in a brand new vehicle once which had rust on the paint!
