Hi all,

I've been looking at both these cars seriously and was thinking of going with the Corolla but the Sentra will cost me a bit less. Any issues I should know about the Sentra? Thanks...

The Sentra had little bugs at the beginning of the last re-designing, but that's all fixed now. It's a solid little car, but not overly exciting unless you get the SER. The Corolla is very good but pricier, not very exciting either unless you get the 'S". I have no fear of the Sentra whatsoever, at my last visit at the Nissan dealer for service on my X-Trail, my service manager said that they never see this little car in the garage except for oil changes.

Both are solid compact performers - they do the small things well, and will give you plenty of miles of good reliable service. The SE-R Spec V and S models are both sweet - so long as you don't mind a phenomenal amount of torque steer - which is problematic in both vehicles.

The new Sentra is a nicer vehicle like the current model was over it's predecessor - however, it'll be a while before we see them in dealerships. Have you thought about including the new Civic in the mix? It may be new, but has a great legacy of reliability and after-market accessories (and it looks a bit sportier than either the Corolla or Sentra).

thanks for the replies. I considered the Civic but it is about $2000 more and I don't need anything fancy. Just want a good solid car that will last a long time. I just got back from test driving both and both were nice with the edge going to the corolla for a quieter ride.

Then it seems to me that it's essentially a coin flip. Either car is a winner imo.

The S package is just a trim level on the Corolla, I believe, not a real performance upgrade.
In the Sentra, you can spend a lot and get the Spec V, but the regular SER is a nice upgrade for less money.
The Sentra design is a little dated, but the Corolla is a bit ho-hum, too. I think the Sentra still looks pretty nice in the SER trim. I think that's what I'd get.

Thanks for the replies. I actually went with the corolla. Can you believe I sold an Acura RSX type-s for it? Need 4 doors now!
