hybrids arent worth the extra money just on the fuel savings alone. IIRC the escape youd have to drive for like 12 years just to recoup the extra cost.

Hybrids are for those who want to make a statement of apology for having to drive a car.....

Alberto, comparing between Honda and toyota is not a fair comparison.
Honda has 155 H.P. whereas prius has 110. comparison, Toyota sacficed power for milage, and if you drive in north America, required in a car for it to take you out of a bad siutation is power.
So in my opinion prius might not get you away from a situatrion as fast as Honda will. It is only my opinion.
Somewhere one has to look at all would be situations while driving to be safe.
Besides Hybrid to Hybrid there is a big diferance between 6 and 4 cylenders. Honda Hybrid has 6 and Toyota has 4. I am only going by what I see in the comparison chart.

You said it Pritch. Not that there's anything wrong with wanting to make a statement with what you drive - we have been doing that since the first cars hit the road

Not even making a statement- the tiny hybrid badge barely does it. Theyre just plain neet-o, and some people pay thousands for that.
JWW and Pritch. Am I saying something out of the oedinary or what. Enlightn me.

You guys have to split the Hybrid vehicles in two categories: Performance hybrids and Fuel-mising hybrids.
Performance:
Accord Hybrid
Highlander Hybrid
RX 400h
GS 450h
Fuel economy:
Prius
Insight
Civic Hybrid
Camry Hybrid
Escape Hybrid
Silverado / Sierra Hybrid
The Prius and Insight are pretty much distinct vehicles. They are as much a visual statement than a fuel economy champ. The Camry Hybrid, for example, is more subtle. Having driven the Prius, I can attest that its power is sufficient for North America.

I have the Lexus GS 450h this week and although I've never really been a Hybrid lover, I'm totally sold on this one.
It has it all, luxury, fuel economy, size, and best of all... it goes like stink! 'if you want it to".
Also, when you look at the lower brands offerings, it tends to stand out that your're paying a large chunk of money for that Hybrid Technology.
The 450h is priced at $76.900. Now although that isn't pocket change, when you compare it to non-Hybrid competitors in that segment of the market, it almost appears that you're getting the Hybrid technology thrown in for free.
Check out how much Mercedes-Benz or BMW are asking for their models nowadays, their prices make the Lexus look like a bargain.
