Hmm - Goobers or Raisinettes?

Both have their pros and cons, and while I initially preferred the Yaris, I have really taken a liking to the Fit. I would own either one.

I thought that the Yaris has sold worldwide (except North America) for the past five years and is a proven vehicle?

Yaris in a previous life is the Echo in North America. The Echo evolved from the very tired Tercel.

The Yaris which we now have is simply the next-gen Echo with a name change to go with the trend of giving one name to a model for all geographies where it is sold.

Any car with the driver's instruments in the centre of the console

if a no-no in my books. I drove my friend's Echo for a while and it just

does not make any sense. Let the driver have the instruments in front

of him/her.

As far as the Fit goes, well it's Honda.

I checked the new Kia Rio5 out and it was a real surprise. I would

choose it over the other 2, especially with the 5 yr/100,000 kms

My only complaint with the Rio and Accent is that you can't get them with full convenience features like cruise control. Otherwise, I agree Kia and Hyundai are acceptable alternatives in the sub-compact space.

Good point - it's a mini-sized Renault Megane in a clean, solid package with more seating and cargo area than either the Yaris or Fit. Plus if you are an automatic fan (on a small car - yuck!) then you'll get the CVT that gives better gas mileager (reportedly at least).

CVT= le junk

but im told they have a power advantage and yes the mileage improvements Im sure would be welcome.

I tend to agree with you - especially in a sub-compact where an automatic transmission of any kind has no right to be. And then I just read your review on the Accent GLS - which, oddly enough had an automatic!

For shame on the Korean car company that gives a sub compact with an auto-box to a journalist to review :)

But alot of buy of these cars are seniors who should not be driving any more
ALso there probably alot of young people driving who do not know what a stick is.

Lots of young people dont know what driving manual is, you're correct. I've taught many myself. But even for basic transportation, an auto is sometimes needed. Did you know overseas that automatics are only used for cripples and the elderly?

The automatic accent has its place but its also a great excuse to learn to drive stick- the car can be fun to drive with a 5-speed. The auto....no.

Good little car though

Indeed - driving a stick has sadly become a lost art here in North America. I only drive an auto because a stick wasn't available on the highest trim level. There is nothing more satisfying than making a run on a twisty road with a shift - it can be exhilerating :)

having owned an echo for 3 years, i'm a big advocate of a high, mid-dash speedo. its closer to one's vision lines and you are able to adjust your steering wheel to your personal comfort rather than to your speedo cluster's. at one point i owned an '89 probe that had its speedo cluster move with the steering wheel. that worked quite well.
yaris or fit are both great choices. nissan quality issues along with their outright ghastly bizarro world styling should scare off anyone. i saw a versa at the autoshow. it made the tribeca look passable.

Why? Well just look at the comparisons, I took the Yaris top model and you still look at thousand of dollars for more options, as for the Fit I took the middle range and you have all the options as for the Yaris you don’t have A/C of Power Windows, my choice would be the Fit without hesitation, I highly recommend the Fit.

Before you find that the Toyota products are a great investment, try investigating the 2007 Hyundai Accent. They are cheaper in price and the fit and finish in the interior is far improved. Check out the little things like side mirror adjusters, side airbags, front panel rigidity, and warranty coverage.

Instead of posting links to another site, why don't you look on this one. We have tested them all and I dare to think that our opinions and reviews are at least as good if not better.
