What are the general pros and cons for each (hatchback vs. sedan)? I searched the net but could not find a decent article about this.
Thanks in advance.
Not sure what you are after here. The obvious pont is that sedan's are supposed to give a quieter drive. Hatchbacks have more cargo space - especially when you drop the seat back in the rear down. Appeal is individual - North America perfers the look of the 3-box sedan (hood-cabin-trunk) while most other geographies prefer the 2-box look (hood-passenger/cargo).
I have owned both - and while currently own a sedan, my prefered body style would be a sport-tourer/wagon.

Thx for the reply. Yes that was mostly what I was looking for as I am fairly new to this.
I have also heard of some girls not wanting their boyfriends to drive a hatchback. Is it not cool for a guy to drive one? Just wondering if this is true or is just a myth.

If someone doesn't want to be seen with me, or be with me because of the kind of car I drive, then I would think twice about wanting them hanging around me. If my wife was concerned about the car I drove when we were dating, I wouldn't be happily married to her today. She just wanted to know that I could get from point A (where I was) to point B (wherever she was).

A hatchback is like a compact sedan or coupe wearing a backpack.
You can fit in extra stuff, and the modern hatches available combine performance and refinement in a way that makes the "noisier to drive" argument almost irrelevant.
They are a smart machine- if your lady friend doesnt like one, tell her you can find four other ones that do, and you can take them, and their things, all out for a weekend away. Then see what she says :-)
Two of my favorites are the Audi A3 (review up soon) and the Mazda 3 GT (check in the archives)
generally, their benefits far outweigh their costs when it comes time to carry a few friends and their gear around.

OK younger buyers prefer hatches in general because they look cool, are small, can be modified, boxy cargo carrying efficiency, easy to spread carried items between trunk and back seat for longer items like skis bikes, lumber--so sports/utility minded. And they don't look like the boring cars driven by m & pa and gramps.
Older me wants to keep my junk out of the passenger compartment, the lighter weight, the higher structural rigidity which gives it that more expensive solid feel.
Finally it comes down just what you personally like better--each to his own.
i think hatch back looks cool , for both guys and girls.... i personally like the new Golf GTI, but wonderring whether the 4 doors look good or not.
