Hi :D I am new to here
I just joined civic nation 4 days ago
This is my very first new car
So far I like my car except some problems.
I have 180km so far on it.
However, paint on the front bumper where near the left head light is peeling.lol :wow So, I went dealership to show it. They told me that they have to pull the bumper out to repaint it. My car is brand new and only 4days old. IMO. I told them not to pull out the front bumper but they told me that there is no way to repaint it unless pull it out.
-If they pull out the front bumper and reinstall it after repaint it, it is not going to fit perfectly as they are prodced first time in the factory?

And when I am reversing my car, I hear water fluid sound from the gas tank.
My guess is that when the gas tank is not full, the gas is moving (its common sense) but I can here its moving sound :!: Also, I ask them for this problem and they told me that it is noraml thing and there is nothing wrong with hearing sound when the gas tank is not full.
-Is that right? is this a just normal thing? or I am just too picky?
Anyone, who has a 2006 civic beside me, hear the sound from the gas tank when you reversing?

And go inside of the car, I hear rattle sound from the front right side corner where front window shield and dash board meet(near the front speaker). I hear this sound since yesterday lol. But for this one they told me that they can fix that problem. lol

Thanks for reading my complains
I have pretty long story but, my question is:

-If they pull out the front bumper and reinstall it after repaint it, it is not going to fit perfectly as they are prodced first time in the factory?

-Hearing sound when reversing is normal thing?

Thanks again guys

P.S: One of my friend told me I should ask to dealership or Honda Canada if I can exchange my car since my car is new and not very old.
Or, I just can simply ask to dealer for more service such as free oil change or paint protection. What do you guys think?

Looking forward your help guys. Thanks

In response to your two questions:

1. Painting Car Bumpers.
The only way that I am aware of re-painting a fully clad bumper is for the auto body shop to remove it, paint it and reinstall it on the vehicle. I own an 2006 Sonata which is 4 months old, and was recently in a minor rear-end accident. The result was that the entire rear bumper needed to be painted. You cannot tell that the bumper was removed, nor can you tell that a long under-side piece of molding has been replaced. Even if I pull up to a brand new unit on the dealer lot, you can't tell the difference. If you insist on not having the bumper taken off to repaint it, you will risk having paint seams, or worse still, more peeling after the paint job is completed because they couldn't do the job right.

2. Water Sound When Tank is Not Full.
My first point on this would be to ask you whether you have actually been able to tie this sound to a full or not-so-full gas tank. I have never had the sound of gas moving around in the tank intrude in the car cabin - even with my 2002 Altima which is notorious for sound intrusions. I have had older cars collect water in the doors over the winter time or after an extremely hard rainfall (and I mean monsoon-like). You say you have 180km on the car, so how can you suspect this is tied to a full or diminishing gas supply in your tank? How many times have you filled up with gas so far? My guess is maybe once. It sounds odd to me, but I suppose it's possible.

Other Observations/Comments
The general interior rattles that you hear would worry me. A brand new car with the supposed fit and finish reputation of a Honda should definitely not rattle inside unless you have stuff rolling around in a glove box or other compartment.

Insofar as exchanging for another new car, well good luck with that. I expect that the dealer will turn you down flat. You will have to prove that the car is a lemon, and that means a long-drawn out affair, where you are keeping a meticulous journal with all details of repairs. I am pretty confident that a vehicle with only 180km on it would not qualify - especially since you haven't pursued every possible avenue with the dealer. I am making a presumption with my last point here - but, again, with 180km on it, you haven't even changed the oil yet, so I can't see how you could have the vehicle declared a lemon. Check out the lemon laws for Canada (I think we have them, but have not researched this before).

Have you ever owned a brand new car before? I have owned plenty - believe me, no matter how much you spend there is almost always some small thing that annoys a new owner. My experience has been that it has usually been 'fixable'. When it isn't I simply don't buy another like car (ergo, I am not driving a 2006 Altima right now).

Anyway - my suggestions would be to:
1. Have the dealer to repaint the bumper and trust the body shop to be able to do the job properly.
2. Take the Service Mgr with you on a test drive, with you at the wheel, and point out every little annoying noise that you hear such as the sloshing fluid, rattles, etc.
3. Insist on them providing you with a free loaner while they are fixing the car. This will possibly be a bit tough, but stand firm - speak to the President or owner of the dealership if you have to.

Cheers.

Hi JWW
First of all, I will appreciate your Kind and understandable answer :D
And, This is my very first new car so I was expected a lot for new Japaness car :) . The higher expectation makes me the higher disappointment. :D and maybe I am too picky :)

When I bought the car, they gave me full tank of gas and after I spend one third of them, I started can hear the sound. :)
As you said I was not sure so I went gas station yesterday and filled up with full tank of gas. Guess what? I can't hear the sound any more. I know this does not make you understand. If I could go out with you and I want you to have to hear that sound. The delership told me it's noraml thing and every civic does do that.

Also, thanks for giving me the information of lemon law and exchangeble timing. As I told you with first post, this is my first car so, I don't know many things :D but, I am learning now :D . The reason why I asked for if I can exchange my car is my friend told me the longer I use the harder to exchange the car. Worryng about taking out the bumper as well.
I think I'm too easily influenced by what others say. :D I think I was overreacting . :D

And then for rattleling sound, dealership knows it thats why they told me they can fix it. I am going delership today. I made an appointment, I will insist on them providing me with a free loaner :D.
Thanks again JWW
I will keeping posting whats going on :D Have a nice day!!!

Paint chipping (after a small impact or small scratch) has been a serious issue with Honda in the 90s. I thought the issue was resolve but seems not.

For your issue turtle, I would suggest to get the repair done by a Honda dealer, you have better chance that it would fit perfectly.

Hi turtles and welcome to the forum , and congratulations on your new Civic. :drive: I had many new cars , but i have never heard gasoline moving around in any car, maybe there is a turtle in your gastank having a shower :'-) . As for the painting peeling of the front bumper, they can repaint it and i am sure , the fit ones put back will be just like new. Did you not see the paint peeling off when you took delivery of your car? If you would have seen it then , i am sure you could have had a few $$$ knocked of the price. It will be hard to get anything from them now , like a free oil change . I just spocke to my brother inlaw he also got a new civic 4 weeks ago and he is not hearing any of this noice you hear from the tank .

Good luck , and keep us posted

Hi big_block and F1mania!
Nice to see you!!
Thanks for you guys' answers
I went delership today, and I went out with one of service part person and made them sure where those all strange sounds comming from.
Actually there are quite a few squeak sounds.
First strange sound is comming from near right front speaker. Second is from center facia. Third one is from passenger's door And the final which has biggest squeak sound is comming from near back seats.
They can fix all these strange sounds except water fluiding sound. And they are going to fix my car until tomorrow. Also, I let them pull the bumper out and repaint it.
Thanks you for all :D
Nothing is perfect anyway :D I'd better relax from now. :D

"big_block" did honda has Paint chipping problem before? I did not know that. Very useful information thanks

"F1mania" Thanks for asking to your brother inlaw.
Nothing was wrong when I bought the car. I just picked up my car as soon as the car arrived. Of course I took a look the car but nothing was defected at that time or I missed. Anyway Thank you!

You guys are all awesome Thanks again :D

Turtle in the 90s, there was some issues with paint chipping on the Honda after doing a small scratch especially on the bumpers. I saw some bumper completly turning black (plastic color). I guess quality of paint or primer was questionnable. Paint chipping on a car just after coming out the assembly plant, never heard about that. Car are made so fast these days, so it could happen. You're just not lucky. If a paint start to chip, don't use the washer pressure machine to wash your car, it will make the thing worst.

As far as the paint on the Civic is concerned, I would have 2 things to say:

1- I do not recall paint chipping issues on Hondas (and others), I remember that they had huge fading problems. The colors would loose much of their lustre after a few short years.

2- Why is the paint chipping? That is the question. Was the vehicle involved in a small fender-bender before you took delivery? I have seen this before. I would perhaps recommend that you get the car checked by an independent body shop just to make sure. (has it been repainted, is this the original bumper)

Concerning the rattles, in the last 9-10 months, I have tested 5 different Civics and none of them had any noticeable rattles. In the late 90s and early 2000, Honda did have a number of trim assembly problems. This has been solved as far as I understand...

I am sceptic about your Civic Turtle.

Hi,

i just purchased a 2006 Civic Sedan and I have experienced the same problems. I took it in for service and they advised me the strange noise was coming off bad struts. I have replaced them and not the noise is gone. I found alot of info around the web about this situation.

Secondly, I just having new problems. First, I now seem to have to problems starting the car up. It just won't turn over, and this is not a cold morning start up. anyone having the same issues?

Thirdly, has anyone tried honking the horn, after about a second it start to sound like it is falling apart (like having water inside the device) sort of muffled.

Does anyone else have any other problems, because it sounds to me like I just bought a lemon....
