Aveo/Vibe Safety

Good day. I have a question about the different safety testing standard in Europe and North America. I'm from Alberta but I now live in Ukraine. I'm thinking about getting a Chevy Aveo, (same thing as Pontiac Vibe), so I've been doing some research.

In the US, the Aveo got a 5 star crash safety rating. In Europe, the Aveo failed. It's the same car, (GM/Daewoo), so why the different results?

Any info would be appreciated.

Just different standards in each country. These standards cover all sorts of things- emissions, safety and so on..
