I would like to purchase a 2002 Volvo V70 unfortunately, I am worried that if I buy the one with the turbo (2.4T), I'd be asking for trouble in a few years from now and loss of money should the turbo fail? Getting the non turbo model (2.4) would prevent this. Consequently, would anyone have knowledge as to whether or not I should purchase with or without. NO, I do not have a trailer, we are simply a family of three with a dog. YES! The main question is: Does anyone have heard anything regarding Volvo's Turbo ? Is it reliable?

Thanks

No family of three should have a Turbo. When would you use it ?

if it is Volvo it should be good, Turbo essantialy is an extra boost when u need it, wth trailer u might need it to get out of situations. So turbo will help u if u use it wisely, but can get u in trouble if u used it otherwise.

Turbo is an element of cars , and is there for those who use it sparingly and diligantly. those who are bent on racing in streets are not going to be detered wheather they have turbo or not.

Family of three ( Wife, 8 yr old son and I) and a dog.
I've always consired the turbo as being the equivalent to a V6 (a good thing to have). Consequently, I've always thought that having more power would help the motor work with more ease.
I called four garages, three mecanics (who did not know me) mentioned that I'd be better off without the turbo. The turbo having more parts and requirings more maintenance and thus...COSTS!! The fourth one did not have an opinion.
YES! I have heard nothing but rave reviews regarding Volvo's Turbos but, with the mechanics advising me that...I should go for the non Turbo version and save the bucks (on purchase and future repairs).

What do you think?

I want to purchase a 2002 V70. So my dillema lies with 2.4 or 2.4T. With or without Turbo?

Looks like so far, it's going to be without.

My opinion, you should go for a non turbo.

If you go for the T.
First u absolutely must use the highest grade motor oil ( TURBO ) should be refered on the bottle. Second do not extend your intervals as this is directly related to how long the Turbo will last. Turbo's can be bought rebuilt but the problem remains it's an added mvingpart that wears out over time. Yes you would enjoy the extra kick when you want to pass but that should not be at the top of mind when deciding.

2002 is now 5 years old, you will start to have some repairs to do on either one. Volvo parts are not cheap.

non turbo engines is much easier to maintain compare to turbo charged engines so i suggest you stick to non turbo engines if you're not looking for speed.

Non Turbo for me. Much more safe to maintain. You can still have speed with a turbo.
