Hello to all!

This summer I will be purchasing an SUV. I am slowly starting to look at various makes and models and have no idea which one would best suit my lifestyle.

I currently have a 1998 Dodge Avenger sport (automatic, 6 cyl, electric windows, mirrors and drivers seat, air conditionning and cruise control) which was a great car for me when I got it but that was 4 years ago (if anyone knows how much I could get for my current car that would be of great help too).

My life has changed since and I find that my car is too small. I participate in many sports and need room for my hockey equipment. Also in the summer I play ball and need room to bring my 2 german shepherd dogs along with me. I have no intention of doing any off road with my SUV and it would have to be an automatic. The price of the vehicle would have to be under 20,000$ taxes included.

So... as I know nothing about cars I have no idea what other type of information you would need to help me out!

Any suggestions would be very welcome!!

Thanks!

For $20,000 taxes in, there are many used SUVs to consider:

2002-2005 Honda CR-V

2001-2005 Toyota RAV4

1997-2002 Toyota 4Runner

2001-2004 Toyota Highlander

2005-2006 Nissan X-trail

2000-2004 Nissan Xterra

1999-2003 Nissan Pathfinder

2001-2004 Subaru Forester

Depending on the mileage and condition of your Avenger, you could expect to get beweent $5,000 and $6,000 in a private sale. If you wish to trade it in, knock off at least $2,000.

Thanks for your response... there are a few more that are not on your list... and I was wondering if maybe there were problems with those makes and models?

Hyundai Santa Fe
Kia Sportage
Kia Sorento
Saturn Vue
Jeep Liberty

??

Thanks!!

The Koreans are good choices as well. The VUE and Liberty offer less quality and technology (VUE Green line notwithstanding) for the same or more money as the Hyundai and Kia.

It depends on your desires...

I do know this that federal Govt., is imposing a new tax that will add 1,000 to 1,500 dorra to your new buying price, I don't know if this applies to used SUV gaz guzzlers or not!

The "Green Levy" does not apply to used vehicles. On new vehicles, it also depends on the date of invoice whether it applies or not.

My friend has a Cherokee; he swears he'll never buy Chrysler/Jeep again.

Ford Escape is a good choice as well.
