If it is 26000 before taxes, In my opinion Honda Accord LX is one of the best choices.

Default dreamcar response

Nissan Altima. It has been improved for 2003, offers great style and superb performance. Look out for next year's (2004) Mitsubishi Galant too, very slick. I've driven the Honda Accord too, and probably has the nicest interior of the bunch, plus will offer the best reliability this side of the (yawn) Camry. The domestics offer nothing and the VW Passat, while really nice, isn't reliable. Depending on your age the Hyundai Sonata offers a lot of car for the money too, but not a performance leader. It's all about priorities...

In a more compact car I'd go for the Impreza 2.5RS Wagon: AWD and flat four cylinder engine. Perfect for winter.

You can go for the Honda Accord LX. The Accord has been in Canada for a long long long time. It`s hard to beat its reliability and has a great smooth ride. It`s good at everything.

However, you won`t be getting any fancy stuff with the LX. If you want a brand new car under $26,000 with all the features then you should consider the HONDA CIVIC SI 4 door or Acura 1.7 EL. The engine is a little smaller but you`ll appreciate the gas savings and most of all you`ll get all the trims such as moon roof, cd changer, electric everything and on the ACURA even leather seats. I think you`ll be happiest with the EL.

Getting back to the engine being a little smaller. With a CIVIC/EL you get a 1.7 VTEC eginee with 127 horsepower and 115 of torque. It`s got guts and trust me it goes. It`s a fun car to drive. The only time you`ll feel the lack of power is when you are are 3 or 4 in the car, carrying a load or on a steep uphill.

Other options are of course MAZDA 6 or MAZDA 3 hatchback, ALTIMA. I don`t really like the CAMRY. It looks to much of a grandfather car. Stick to HONDA or ACURA. There`s also the TOYOTA Carolla or Matrix.

I'd probably spring for a Mazda 3 hatch. At that price, it has the right balance of comfort, performance, fuel mileage, etc.

By the way, dream car that I can afford?. What kind of dream is that? For me, the dream part kicks in when someone else ponies up the 26, 000 G's! :nice:  :bravo:
