Default The outrageous gas prices

Something will soon have to be done about the gas "crisis" that we're currently experiencing. I'm currently paying $500 more a year for gas (compared to gas around the $0.70 mark).

It's time we seriously consider alternatives, such as the Honda Insight.

The government could give tax credits to people who buy environment-friendly vehicles (because the prices are still a bit high).

I think that Government subsidies are NOT the answer. The amount of taxes that is pulled off before it actually gets to the pumps are based on a percentage. Hence the higher the cost, the higher the revenue from taxes. The overall percentage shold e lowered as the revenue should end up as it was when prices were lower.

The governments, BOTH, are profitting from not haveing to anounce tax hikes but we get one none the less.

What do you expect from the government. There are all kinds of these hidden taxes. They won't talk about it at all if they can help it. What we need to do is get a document with all of the taxes we pay, and i mean all of them, gas taxes, alcohol, cigarette, etc etc. Add all this to the taxes we are used to (PST, GST) and then smack the income tax on top. People would be amazed at how little we actually take home from our salary. We need to really publicize this and embarass the government with it.

I think the government is filling their own pockets with our money.

then again, perhaps people will start walking or biking around instead of getting into their cars North Americans are getting bigger and unhealthier as the years go on. Maybe they do know what they are doing. :?

There are too many cars on the roads and highways. Just think what that is doing to the air and environment.

Someone certainly knows what they are doing and are getting very rich at the same time.

Bad habits are hard to break...

The government already gives tax credits/rebates for buying environmentally friendly cars...look into it...some rebates are administered buy the Feds and each Province has its own as well. I believe in Nova Scotia its like $3000!!!! I think they should set a fuel consumption target and everyone buying a car that consumes fuel below that target should get some sort of rebate. It increases demand for fuel efficient cars which might prompt manufacturers to offer more such models here....they already offer them in Japan and Europe why not here :?:
