advice for a volvo 850 owner

Good day, Im a new owner of a 96 model volvo 850 gle. I would likle to save on maintenence cost without sacrificing the quality of my car. Can anyone advice me on the best engine oil? also, tips on engine upgrade? the car is a bit sluggish at the start, i was hoping maybe a can do something to improve its performance. you may email me at fgtjr@yahoo.com
