Default Trans

First off what kind of trans is it? Auto or five speed? If it is an auto I am guessing that you have blown your over drive gear. This is common for this car as the ford escort used the same power train. The escort was known for blowing the over drive gear. If it's a five speed I cannot help you there as you were not very clear for what your problem is.
I know this doesn't help much but it does inform you. Is your car not still under warranty??
Good luck

Default ford and mazda

thanks for your reply............yes it was covered under warranty thankfully.....I know that ford owns mazda. My main interest in Mazda was for reliability because this car was assembled in Japan........You answered my question when you told me about the blown overdrive......similar to the escorts............It is an autommatic and it originated as an overdrive problem.......the trans would not go into overdrive............the dealer was very good in dealing with me but it took a week and half for the transmission to arrive from mazda, so I assumed that there has been a pile of these repairs because of the back order situation. Ironically my previous car was a Taurus with similar problems and even though I went to mazda for my next car, ford is still the root of this problem.......thanks again for your reply...
