Default European Motor Oils

What's the experience of some here with the API and ACEA standards? Is 5W-40 the average SAE needed by European cars? What about synthetics? I'm connected to a company that has introduced "New" European Motor Oil 5W-40, maybe new for North America.

Default Euro Oil

There is a special Diesel oil that has to be used for Euro cars; they have a gasoline with fewer impurities that can damage Candadian diesels. What is that.

And how about my friend that uses diesl oil in his old Toyota Echo. Does that make sense to anyone? Youknow, worn engine
