Changing a four wheel drive to a two wheel drive (to save a

[Can someone please help me?
I have a 1998 Chev Blazer.
My husband has just attempted to fix my brakes that were runing metal on metal.
He then decided to change the four wheel drive to a two wheel drive.

I cannot drive it because he says it is making a "missing noise/
He refuses to take any of his vehicles to a GM dealer and claims that the reason he changed the four wheel drive is because it is cheaper on gas.
I am terrified to drive it because I am not comfortable with it being safe. Does anyone know and can someone help me, please, I am terrified.
