FORD FINESSES FALCON MARK II
Falcon's MkII make-over goes to the full range, from XT to XR8 and even the ute, and includes the option of the Tremec T56 six-speed transmission, uprated safety standards and comfort features. MkII Falcon was also inspired by Ford's sales and on-track success with the first-model BA in the V8 Supercar Championship, sporting a new range of colours such as 'Shockwave' and 'Velocity' blue.

"The BA Falcon not only gained critical acclaim but won a host of important motoring, engineering and safety awards as well," says Ford Australia President Tom Gorman. "More importantly it spearheaded a revival in the sales fortunes of Ford Australia built on providing product that inspires passion and confidence in the market.

"It also heralded a new era in motorsport with Marcos Ambrose reclaiming the V8 Supercar championship for the Blue Oval. MkII represents a further development of the BA Falcon with the changes driven by customer demand for extra features."

Those demands included a slick six-speeder for the company's performance models. The Tremec T56 gearbox, as used by Aston Martin Vanquish and Ford Mustang Cobra R, "fitted every element of our criteria," says Ford's Performance Vehicle Planning Manager, Gordon Barfield. "It has six gears and the torque capacity that we require, but more importantly we could engineer the gear ratios we wanted. Customers told us they wanted a six-speed transmission that offered real benefits in terms of driving performance. They didn't want an extra gear ratio that was virtually redundant in Australia with our speed limits."

Falcon XT sedan, which starts at $34,255, now has cruise control as standard. Futura, for $38,260, gets side airbags and power adjustable pedals while Fairmont ($42,965) features reverse parking sensors, and leather and woodgrain sports steering wheel and 17-inch wheels for the Ghia version which starts at $51,755. The XL and RTV are available in the new Shockwave colour while the XLS gets new side-skirts and the XR6 Turbo and XR8 utes are offered with the new six-speed gearbox.

This car is sick! I love it. Imagine fleets of these cars instead of Tauruses and Crown Victorias.
