OK, so I'm not a mechanic but can usually figure out what the problem can originate from on a car, but this one stumps me... here goes:
I've a got "brand-new" '86 Corolla, and it runs very well, except when it's cold, it stutters and seems to be gasping for air, but only at low RPM. You've got to launch it veeeery lightly on the throttle for it not to stall, or pump the sucker, but at higher RPMs it' ok. Also, once the car is warm, the problem goes away. I leave the air filter cover off, because it seems to be a little better that way. I am wondering what it could be? Spark plugs, coil & wiring perhaps? |

It has been humid in the mornings recently. I think you should look into doing a little tune-up (plugs, wires and cap+rotor). You can check the wires tonight: open the hood and check if you see sparks (you can even put your finger on them if you are really crazy). If you see the sparks or feel them, you know that you need to replace them.

I just realized that your race car is carburated! That must be the problem. They way you drive at 65 km/h on the highway... that thing must be dirty and gummed up. I would look into that for sure. It's not an uncommon problem. The venturi might be lined in junk.

Yeah, the carb is right next to the twin turbo blowers...

No, on top of the intake manifold...
behind the twin-turbos.
