Default 1999 camry comments ??

Wondering if any of you 4th gen camry owners with the V6 have any comments either good or bad about your car. How many miles on it and how do you rate it etc.

There is a 1998 Camry in my familly and it has been the best car that this person has ever owned. It a 4 cylinder though. The only thing that has gone wrong in the past 3 years (bought used) has been the water pump, a common problem. Otherwise, the car is perfect.

This generation Camry was very good but the previous one, 1992-1996, was even better.

Ditto here... a '98 Camry in the family, runs like new, but with the 4-cylinder, though. a solid, silent, well-built car.

I just remembered that the V6 had a sludge problem a few years back. Toyota extended the warranty to 8 years (powertrain) on some cars for this problem. If the oil changes have done on a regualer basis tehn ther would be no problem.

So, if you buy one, have it inspected and try to get the maintenance history. If it all checks out, make sure you do the oil changes as recommended by Toyota Canada.

Default Sludge

Yes I have read about the sludge problem and the warranty Toyota is offering. Mine has no sysmptoms though ( oil consumption, smoke).Apparantly the 4 cylinder engine was affected too. Im told the problem was/is not common in Canada. I will be using the dealer for any maintenance. But she sure is great to drive!

An independent shop will do a very good job too and the real bonus is that it will be cheaper. Not too mention that Toyota dealers are pretty tough to deal with when it comes to service.

Default trac contol

I thought I had an engine problem for a few days. Hesitation when accelerating hard. Slightly slippery roads. Guess what the fix was?

Default trac control

Nope. Trac control. It applies a little braking to the spinning wheel. Feels like a bad coil or something electrical but its just doing what its supposed to. Turned off trac contol and it accelerates as smooth as a turbine.
