Default Piston problems?

I have a 1998 Artic Cat 440ZL, liquid cooled. I believe I blew a piston. I checked where plugs are lots of pressure blowing out of 1 spark plug hole but not the other. It will not start. Any ideas on how I know for sure? Also maybe what would cause you to blow a piston and best way to fix it.

It sounds like you may have blown a compression ring. To find out if that is the case, you can drop a tea spoon (maybe a little for a smaller displacement engine) of thicker oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole. If compression increases, your rings probably need to be replaced. If the problem still exists, the piston itself may be at fault.

A dirty carb on that cylinder could have caused the top if the piston to burn through if the plug tit is grey this is what caused it replace the piston aroubd $200.00 for parts and always remove carbs and clean them . this has happened to me

Thanks for the info Sabby. I was wondering what parts you purchased to do this and if it was just the piston that was that price or if for all parts you needed. Also where you purchased them. I was wondering what kind of sled you have? Thanks again for the info.

I used to have a couple of piston problems way back. I decided to fix the sticking oil press gauge, and re-calibrate the temp gauge. I thinks it's not good being a DIY chum.
