Default Used Extended Warranty Help

The motor in my car is knocking badly. I purchased the 4 year 80,000 km warranty at the time I purchased the used car from the dealership. Now, they are giving me a hard time about the warranty. They asked for all the receipts for the oil changes etc. which I provided. Now they want me to sign a work order to tear down the engine...at my cost....to take pictures to send to GM to decide if the warranty would be covered. Is this standard proceedure? Right now I have no car, they won't pay for the loss of use by proving a rental car unless the warranty is approved....things are looking pretty grim right now. Please help with what you know about GM warranties and what they do to try to get out of honoring the warranty and what I can do.
Many thanks in advance to all who can help.

I hope you still have copies of your maintenance records.

If GM refuses to proceed with the repair free of charge, you should have
your car looked at by an independent mechanic that will confirm that the
problem should be covered by your warranty. This garage should ideally
provide you with an expertise (estimate including what needs to be done and
what happened). At this point, you should send the manufacturer and the
dealer a claim letter with a copy of your extended warranty program and
maintenance bills. This letter should contain a description of the facts,
why it should be done under warranty followed by a claim for the repair with
a delay. If they refuse or give you no answer, you can proceed with the
repair at the garage however make sure that the garage will be willing to
testify in court on your behalf. Once the repair is done, send a second
claim letter, very similar to the first but this time, asking them to
reimburse you. If that fails, you will have to take them to small claims
court.

For more information, I would recommend that you contact the Automobile
Protection Association (www.apa.ca) or at 416-204-1444. You may also need a lawyer.
