Hello Everybody and today I want to talk about the Ford Mustang
What im the most interested in is how come it managed to thrive when the firebird and camaro left us. What made it a better car? And what sort of things made it so popular back in the 60's? Thanks everyone |

true enough, im really trying to sort out what caused the hype with this car way back when it came out and how come it stuck around
inherently, sportscars come and go and especially given fuel costs, government regulations becoming tighter and the like, the muscle car hasnt had a very easy life....many have died off, meaning since the Stang didnt, enough people were after them to make it worth while Im not 100 percent sure why though |

Hmm... I'd say the clincher was the last generation of F-Bodies (Camaro and Firebird) were very fast but incomfortable, cramped, unpractical, etc...
The Mustang is not much better, but its more upright styling probably gave it better ergonomics. One more reason, I think: producing two different clones, like the Camaro and Firebird, is more costly, so profits should have been smaller for GM, which ultimately killed the car off. It's a good thing that Ford scored a styling hit with the new retro-styled Mustang, because would have probably also been laid to rest.

In the early 60's the WWII were reaching their 30s and wanted a nice looking sporty car for the whole family. Mr Iacocca somehow saw it coming and created the Mustang. By using an existing platform (Falcon) and keeping production costs low, Ford made sure that just about anyone could afford one. It worked because it took less than 2 years to build and sell 1 000 000 Mustangs.
It was and is popular because it is the original Pony car and it is part of many people's good memories. And I want one!! ![]() ![]()

I curreently drive 365 days of the year a 1966 T5 Fastback here in Victoria and love the styling and the feel ( owned for last 25 yrs). Technically it is a model T compared to the 2005 mustang.
yeah it should have died with the junk they called mustang in the 70 & 80s. It didnt die though because anyone who has ever driven a first generation has a love affair, usually their first car and we all kept pushing Ford to repeat the magic. I meet more people who ramble on about their first mustang and wish they never sold it than any other car Ford has repeated the magic, I would kill for a new mustang as they are sleek, powerfull(they leave me in the dust), and and really do bring back the magic. Many people who owned that first generation and sold it are now boomers who are buying the new one, as it just feels right. the answer is all in the heart |
