Welcome to our Forums!
Why do you want a VW? In particular? What I can tell you is that all VW have very many problems concerning electrical issues and high maintenance costs. The 2.0L can be prone to oil consumption and the 1.8T can have coil pack problems. There are brake, interior trim and accessory failures in all cases. If I had to buy one, I would stick to the 1.8T.

I've had my 04 Jetta 1.8T for three years with no major problems. The turbo has a bit of lag but it has nevered bothered me and feels very fast and tight. My Jetta is loaded with sports suspension etc and 17 inch wheels. I think its better looking than the new Jettas which are starting to look like Corollas.
The tiptronic is great and will hold a gear right to red line. I'd never go back to a manual. Downhifts are great and quite instantaneous. Hey if tiptronic is good enough for Porsche, its good enough for me. Had one piece of side molding that came loose and it was repaired on warranty. By all means get your car checked out thoroughly by someone very experienced with Jettas. There are lots for sale, so you should be able to find me at a good price. |
