Travelling in Western Canada I noticed quite a few cars with no front license plate. I live in Ontario where most cars have both front and back. Checking out the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, I could not find anything that specifically states you must have a plate on the front.
Anyone know the true law and where I could find it ? Thanks |

I would love to know also.
When I test an Ontario plated car, the manufacturers usually remove the front plate in Quebec. I've been told that if I travel to Ontario, I have to re-install the plate.

ON requires a front plate.
I got pulled over driving my wifes SVT Focus - came from the dealer with no front plate bracket. He let me go after promising to get it put on right away. He also gave me a 'notice' (his card, dated, saying he spoke to me about the front plate) for the dealership. |

I drive on an Ontario dealer plate and often toodle around in an old Land Rover with a winch bumper on the front where the plate should be. I've lost count of the number of times a cop has passed me going the other way then turned around only to come up behind me and see the dealer plate (you can almost see the disapointment in their eyes). In Ontario, car dealers only have to have a rear plate, everyone else has to have both, does that make any sense or what??
Another dumb one that I heard, maybe someone could verify if it's true. In Ontario you're allowed to have spotlights mounted on your roofrack as long as they are not turned on. In Quebec it is against the law to have any lights mounted above the windshield full stop. Does anyone know of this, Jeep sell vehicles with optional light pods mounted on the roof (the Liberty is one), are they sold like that in Quebec :?: |

Thanks big_block,
I wasn't sure about it and it made no sense to me but that is what someone told me a while back. I had a Land Rover Defender at the time with 4 spotlights on the roof rack. I travelled through Quebec without a problem but then again if I had have been stopped, I'd have just pleaded dumb, "I can do that quite good"!! |
