Default From MiniVan to SUV - help!

I have decided that my mini-van is THE biggest waste of money and space. I need something that can handle the icy roads of a prairie winter and yet something that is fun to drive. I am leaning towards a JEEP Liberty or a Ford Escape. But I can be swayed. Any suggestions?

I'd take a look at the Toyota FJ Cruiser, it's funky looking, a very capable 4x4 and fun to drive. With a base price around $29,000 and going to about $35,000 fully loaded, It has to one of the best value for money SUV's on offer today!

Also being a Toyota, you know that it's going to be ultra reliable.

Dodge Magnum a possibility? With the All Wheel Drive its a great winter machine. Comfy, roomy, well equipped and a good warranty.

Also, far more fun to drive than any SUV I can think of.

In fact you can read my review in the archives here if you like.

You know Pritch is right, there are a lot of nice wagons on the market nowadays, they might be worth a look.

Again depending on the need...between a ford escape and a liberty...personally unless you need the added off-roading capability the Escape is a nicer machine to drive, but a lot easier to get stuck.... with no locking mode, etc... the Liberty will go anywhere (believe me- I've spent a week with both of them) but the Escape is a really great ride.

Another wagon you might consider might be....Subaru....if that would do it.... Ahem.....General?

If you don't need the off-road capability then go with the Escape. My wife has one and loves it. It is great in the snow (within reason) and now she wants the new one (2008). It also cost way less than the import comparables and drove nicer.

Not sure what your point is but I don't think Lexus is an alternative to the Escape/Liberty.
