Default 1998-99 Subaru Legacy, Outback Sport, or Impreza's

so I was looking for a used car, and saw these ones for pretty cheap with low K's, I like the AWD, but am not sure on how reliable these cars are, and whether or not its a good car for someone who doesnt have a lot to spend on repairs, what do you pros think?

They are fairly reliable. The 2.5L flat 4-cylinder has had some engine knock problems but it is next to always covered under warranty. Otherwise, tough, reliable and well built cars.

Impreza is one of my personal faves.

Default Problems with 2.5L

Actually the Impreza used to have the 2.2L engine - no problems. Now it also has the 2.5L. Why Subaru did that I don't know, because that was a good engine and the 2.5L isn't. Yes, there is a warranty, but they will put a rebuilt block in even if low mileage. They replaced my Forester's engine with a rebuilt when I had only 36,000 kms on it. Better read up a little on engine reliability.
