For Corvette enthusiasts, it's like counting super delegates. But hey, at least the waiting is over. The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the forthcoming Corvette ZR1 produces 638 horsepower. The supercar's top speed will be about 205 mph.
This shouldn't disappoint. It's roughly 20 ponies more than early estimates about the powertrain from GM's own engineering wizards. The car delivers a whopping 604 pound/feet of torque. The hand-built engine uses a Roots-type supercharger with four-lobe rotors. A liquid-to-air intercooler is integrated into the supercharger's housing. So lose your calculators: The motor makes 103 hp per liter of displacement, or 1.7 hp per cubic inch. See video after the jump. Don't expect to pick one up for the expected sticker price of $65,000. Some estimates will have the limited-run car going for as much as $150,000. It's a collector's car, and GM is positioning it as such. Gotta get me one of those. They didn't say how much, but I doubt I have it in the bank anyway.
