The Aspen is Chrysler's first foray into the world of sport utility vehicles. That's right: the storied company had never offered an SUV before, leaving that job to its sportier Dodge division. While the Aspen burst onto the scene fairly late, it now represents a quality alternative, especially in hybrid variant.

with a temporary drop in fuel prices, some people think it's okay to forget about fuel efficiency. And make no mistake, this obese behemoth is anything but fuel-efficient. Chrysler itself says:Fuel economy of 12.2 L/100 km city and 7.9 L/100 km highwayThat's right, this thing uses three times as much fuel on your daily commute as a Smart Car or Prius, and is harder to park, to boot. And it also costs two to three times as much.

Sorry, I quoted fuel economy for another Chrysler product. The actual numbers for the Aspen Hybrid are even worse:Fuel Economy (est.): 13.6 / 9.4 L/100 km (18 / 25 U.S. mpg)(Source: http://www.carterdodgechrysler.com/new-vehicle-showroom/chrysler-aspen-hev.htm). If you buy the non-hybrid version, the vehicle is even more of a guzzler:Fuel Economy (city / hwy): 16.5 / 11.2 L/100 km
