“What’s the best car?”

It’s a daily question in my line of work – posed by family and acquaintances shopping new vehicles. “What can you spend? Do you tow a boat? Are you having kids? Do you need a backup camera gizmo?” Apparently, some folks think I know of some secret car that does everything perfectly, gets 83 miles per gallon, costs four bucks and washes itself.

Not the case.

And there’s no “best” vehicle. Only “better” ones – depending on about 312 different factors. So the question often switches to a simpler one: “Well, what’s your favorite car, then, Justin?”

Ah, that’s easier. I have a few favorites. And I’ve driven some seriously wild and pricey stuff. But, if Justin Pritchard had to buy one machine with Justin Pritchard’s own hard-earned cash, the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 would probably be it.

Huhh?

That’s right. It’s that good. It’s not the fastest car out there. Or the best handling. Or the most classy or refined. It won’t make crowds of aspiring rap artists drop their jaws with hood-emblem shock-and-awe, either. But, as SRT vehicles typically are, this one’s a no-brainer for those wanting to go fast and look good on the cheap.

Brembo brakes, suede-trimmed racing seats and SRT-tuned handling bits are all on board, as are sticky tires wrapping big, sexy wheels. Menacing, hostile looks will frighten children and the elderly, and there’s a spoiler, a front splitter and xenon lighting, too. Don’t miss the proudly-displayed “6.4 HEMI” badge on each fender, either.

Did I mention it’s got room for the kids? And a giant trunk? And a cabin that’s light-years ahead of the outgoing model?

All that performance is augmented with a flat bottomed heated steering wheel, sport bolstered leather-faced seats with perforated suede inserts. (Photo: Michel Deslauriers/Auto123.com)
