Review:
Once the Employee Pricing issue I had with the dealer was resolved, I am actually liking this car the more I drive it. I like the looks but wish the power would match it. It does seem to have more power in the higher revs for passing but is lacking in low end power. Shifting is pretty good but I find the release of the clutch a bit high on the pedal travel. It engages near the top of the travel and since it is a hydraulic clutch system there is no adjustment but I am getting used to it. The bucket seats, which I nicknamed "The Rack", are not that comfortable. I found the lumbar support a bit high on my back and the seat cushion rake too steep, but again I am getting used to it. I do wish there was an adjustment on the rake of the seat like what Ford has done on the Focus.
I find the engine has a bit of a rough idle but it isn't intrusive. The road noise is a bit loud for my liking. The heater and air conditioning work very well. There is pretty good trunk space for this size of car. I don't sit in the back seat but the kids seem to have ample leg room. That may change as they get older and bigger but for now it works. Haven't had an adult back there yet so can't comment on rear seat room. The visibility out is good but doing a shoulder check takes a second look because the pillar is right where I want to look. Being 5'-6", perhaps a shorter or taller person may not have this problem. The lights are nice and bright and the fog/driving lights work well to add to the road visibility.
The gas mileage has been a bit disappointing. It is rated at 48/36 hwy/city mpg(Can)and driving 90% highway I am averaging 36.5 to 37.5 mpg(Can). I shift mostly around 3,000rpm and don't drive it aggressively unless I quickly need to get up to speed when turning onto the highway. The service rep said that after 20,000kms that it would be broken in and provide better gas mileage and that it would incrementally get better up until then. As I only have around 6,000kms I will have to wait and see if it does get better like he said.
Turning onto off/on ramps I find there is some body roll. An anti-roll bar would probably take care of this.
Overall the car has performed pretty good. The more I drive it the more comfortable I am in it and the more I like it. It hasn't given me any mechanical problems so far and I am getting used to its minor shortcomings. So far, so good.
