2008 brings new styling and plenty more horsepower to Infiniti's G Coupe which is now, labeled "G37" in recognition of the increased displacement under its wave-inspired hood.

2008 brings new styling and plenty more horsepower to Infiniti's G Coupe.

Sleeker appearance adds visual intensity
Although styling changes for 2008 don't standout dramatically, the new G Coupe is slightly longer, lower and wider that its predecessor. The new body also exhibits a little more artistry and depth, making the G37 one of the more attractive coupes in the premium segment.

Styling enhancements are found within as well. Here, a revised instrument panel and re-engineered front seats greet the driver and co-pilot. Two outstanding aspects of the cabin are: the extendable seat cushions and the instrument pod that tilts up and down in conjunction with the tilting steering column.

The front seats are some of the best in the industry. They feature adjustable side bolstering to hold the human form snugly in place when the G-forces attempt to dislodge it laterally. The extendable seat cushions support even the longest thighs, removing weight from the heels and relieving lower-extremity fatigue during long hauls.

Affixing the instrument pod to the steering column keeps the gauges in perfect view through the steering wheel regardless of the chosen tilt angle. I favor a fairly low steering wheel but often find that such positioning causes the rim of the wheel to cut into my view of the gauge cluster; that's simply not the case here.

Sleeker appearance reduces interior space
The sleeker body shape intrudes into rear-seat legroom by 1.4 inches, leaving those relegated to economy class rather cramped to say the least. Headroom in the 2008 G37 Coupe is also iffy for tall folk, even for those in the front seats, which offer a tremendous amount of multi-way adjustment.

While whining about real estate deficits, it's worth mentioning that the trunk is shallow and the aperture into the cabin when the rear seatback is folded is rather diminutive. A trip to Costco must be well planned and executed if all items are to make it home in one trip. Go ahead; ask me how, I know.

The front seats are amongst of the best in the industry.
