Wake up the Infiniti G37x Sport by planting your right foot, and its four doors sail off the line on a peaky wave of urgency. There's enough power to make the rear end squirm around, and the potent engine only pauses briefly at 7,500 RPM for upshifts.

The Infiniti G37 carries a discreet look that makes it a real sport-sedan sleeper.

It occurs with almost juvenile levels of thrust and sound effects. In fact, some will find themselves re-examining the car's body to ensure they aren't in something less serious looking.

The difference between the looks and performance here is interesting. Without excessive ornamentation, huge wheels, vents or even bumper-mounted fog-lamps, G37 carries a discreet look that makes it a real sport-sedan sleeper.

"Speeding, officer? Me?"
Designers have pulled off something unique with the styling efforts here. The slatted grille, distinct headlamps and bulging fenders work for an alert and lively face, and from some angles, you mightn't be surprised if the G37 started to breathe.

Despite the athletic, organic look, discretion and restraint are applied to keep things flying under the radar. Given G37's recently-enhanced punch, keeping power output on the down-low isn't a bad idea.

Creamy, screaming torque
One could get into trouble with this mill. Power builds smoothly to beyond the point where most V6's begin thinking about packing it in and restarting in the next gear.

With various intake and timing tricks, this 3.7-litre unit keeps the juice flowing right to redline. In the higher span of the rev meter, there's a loud, attention-grabbing sound that makes drivers appreciate what's going on under the hood. Push it, and the engine sounds absolutely, delightfully furious.

Gears: 7, Driven Wheels: 4
The all wheel drive tester wore all-season tires, though a set of snows are highly recommended to maximize traction and stability. It's a very rear-biased AWD system, and the unleashed G37 will try to hang its tail out in first and second gear if the roads are even wet.
