The bar has been raised in the domestic supercar department. The Viper and the Corvette Z06 had been duking it out for a few years until Ford introduced the GT. Now that the latter is out of the picture, Dodge has no intentions on being surpassed in the performance department again.

The new car can now rip through to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds and cross the ΒΌ mile in a tick over 12 seconds.

How? With a bigger V10 engine. For 2008, displacement has been slightly enlarged, from 8.3 to 8.4 litres. It will pack 600 horses and 560 pound-feet of torque.

Among other changes, the Viper will sport a new clutch working with the new TR6060 6-speed manual transmission. Its gearing is 10% wider for higher torque capacity with a new synchronizer package.

The new Viper is still looks like a Viper. The hood now features more air intakes and redesigned wheels, however the interior remains largely untouched.

The new snake in town presently holds the horsepower title. Can we expect the Blue Devil Vette sometime soon? We think so.
