A muscle-car hides under the Camry's sensible skin
There's also a weird glowing turquoise -colored appliqué surrounding the stereo and HVAC controls. It's as though the designers tried to execute several different styles inside simultaneously - resulting in a strange mishmash of themes and colors.

In back, trunk space is adequate and there's a handy net to keep your belongings in place and upright.

Cruising along
Camry's suspension does a great job of filtering out the roughest parts of the roads surface and leaving occupants to float along accompanied by minimal outside noise. The steering begs drivers to sit back and relax- as it lacks feel and precision. The leather-wrapped wheel tugs back at your hands in certain corners as if you've bothered it, and handling is similar. It gets the job done, but it's far from inspiring. It's a triumph of long-haul comfort over driving excitement.

'Holy @&$##%!!! This is a CAMRY?!"
Redemption for the dozy steering comes from Toyota's 3.5 liter, 24 valve V6 engine with 268 horsepower. Acceleration is fierce and endless, with power delivered strongly across the RPM range. The engine really starts to breathe at high revs, and six gears mean that shifting only sheds a few RPM from the clock. The Camry V6 absolutely rips, on a level that's downright out of place for the looks of the machine.

Even driven hard, the engine is markedly quiet and turns in decent mileage too. Under my right foot, city and highway mileage averaged just over 11L / 100km. Muscle cars have never been so sensible. The only complaint is regards to the transmission. The manual mode can be disobedient, and in 'drive', the gearbox asks "are you really sure?" before finally shifting down.

Be sure to consider a V6-powered Camry if you like giggle-inducing acceleration on demand. If such mayhem frightens you or your grandchildren, the four-cylinder or hybrid model will do just fine.
