Few cars have this much weight on their shoulders, I mean fenders. After all, the Genesis sedan (which is a totally different machine except for the name) received so many trophies and accolades, none bigger than the 2009 North American Car of the Year award.

It turned as many heads as Gisele Bündchen in a crowd of males, definitely not shy to strut its stuff.

The bar was set extremely high for the new two-door Genesis. My first experience with the 2.0L model during our sports coupes comparison test made me appreciate its various qualities while noting a few weaknesses.

But now, with the more powerful engine, my perception of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is entirely different.

Drop-dead gorgeous
While "understated styling" was Hyundai’s approach for the German-like Genesis sedan, designers were given way more freedom for the two-door variant. Racy lines and slender shapes combine to create a sleek yet assertive presence on the road.

With a bright Tsukuba Red body, 19-inch wheels, a sloping hood and sharp taillights, my tester boasted undeniable sex appeal. It turned as many heads as Gisele Bündchen in a crowd of males, definitely not shy to strut its stuff.

Sexiness is also found inside where premium materials abound and fit and finish prove beyond reproach. The center console has been cleverly executed, with just enough pizzazz to spice things up. Meanwhile, the comfortable bucket seats are generously bolstered to effectively contour any driver’s anatomy and provide adequate support in all circumstances.

And let’s not forget the wide range of user-friendly accessories and controls, starting with the big rotary dials in the middle. Nothing too fancy here; just smart stuff. Who likes to read a thick manual before setting the air conditioning, anyway?
