More like the four-door LUXURY car
A loaded Altima 3.5 SR costs $38,733 and a base Infiniti G37 lists from $37,990. That’s one reason why we say the Maxima is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

As for competition, here are a few:
Acura TL, $39,990
Buick LaCrosse CXS, $40,795
Dodge Charger R/T, $40,595
Ford Taurus Limited AWD, $40,999
Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Premium, $39,995
Subaru Legacy 2.5GT, $38,395
Toyota Avalon XLS, $39,285
Volkswagen Passat CC 2.0 TSI Highline, $38,875

The car is more impressive in person than in pictures.

Yes, the Maxima has a sporty character, but calling it the 4-Door Sports Car might be a little optimistic, although we won’t argue too long about that. We prefer calling it the 4-Door Luxury Car.

Still, we think that there is room for the Maxima in Nissan’s line-up since its redesign, despite the presence of their two other competent sedans above and below it. The new Max is a powerful, quiet and comfortable cruiser that offers a racy engine, good manners and a high-quality finish. Sports car or not, my admiration for the Maxima is back.
