The S80 continues to represent the best that Volvo has to offer in the way of comfort and luxury.

For 2010 this spacious flagship sedan has received some minor styling enhancements meant to freshen its appearance without altering its distinctiveness. As well for 2010, Volvo has unscrambled the option list by offering a simplified S80 product and content line-up.

The reduction in option packages reflects the company’s desire to more accurately align vehicle content and available options with Canadian consumer demand.

The entry-level S80 is stickered at $46,995 but don’t interpret “entry-level” to mean stripped. Standard S80 equipment includes leather seating, power driver’s seat and 6-speaker audio.

The only option package available with the entry-level S80 is the Premium Package, which for $3,000 adds a power front passenger seat, heated front seats, Bluetooth and 17-inch alloy wheels. The single standalone option is a $1,500 power sunroof.

This vehicle is powered by Volvo’s staid 3.2-litre in-line 6-cylinder mill that generates 235 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. The power is fed to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The next step in the S80 ladder brings with it a more powerful engine, all-wheel-drive traction and a major spike in MSRP. The S80 T6 retails for $59,995. A turbocharged 3.0-litre engine delivering 281 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque powers the T6, which uses the same 6-speed autobox as the 3.2-litre engine.

The T6 is pretty well loaded with the latest in luxury, safety and protection as standard equipment. The single option package available is the Tech Package, which for an additional $4,000 will add-in speed-sensitive steering and 12-speaker premium audio among other hi-tech installations.

The Tech Package also features Volvo’s cutting-edge Personal Car Communicator and their sophisticated Collision Avoidance System.

Lastly, a cool $69,995 will get you the top-of-the-line V8 AWD version complete with the 311 hp Yamaha 4.4L V8 and all the bells and whistles you could hope for.
